Online Class Information and Schedules

Maintain your training and keep working towards your goals! Keep your kids active and connected to the activities they love. We know that Martial Arts can provide all of our kids with the kind of experience they most need during these months. Our instructors are ready and waiting to help teach and motivate our students online. Here’s how it works.

  1. Attend two classes a week, just as we do in-person.
  2. After a week’s transition, we will book 10-minute semi-private interactive sessions for each student, every other week.
  3. You will receive an email on the morning of your regular, in-person class, with the time and link to your Zoom classroom based on your original in-person schedule. We’ve tried to keep everyone as close to their original times as possible. If you would like to see what that schedule looks like before receiving your specific email, please click here.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why have some class times changed?

We now have enough experience in teaching online to know that it’s best to focus on the specific curriculum for your student’s belt level. In order to achieve that with the number of cameras we have available, we have had to move a few groups of students around. We’ve done our very best to accommodate most students at their original time or very close to it. If these times don’t work for you, please email us and we’ll work to find you a time that works for you!

Can students really learn online?

After nearly two years of the pandemic, we know the answer is yes. Not only can students learn and grow as Martial Artists, they can keep a connection to an activity they love. We know that activities like Martial Arts which connect the body and the mind help us to cope with stress and to stay healthy physically and mentally. They also keep a connection to their fellow students and their instructors and our positive, supportive approach to teaching. And oh yes – we have LOTS of fun.

What’s the purpose of the Interactive Sessions, given they are just 8-10 minutes long?

Our program always includes individual feedback and a chance to motivate our students individually, focusing on their specific goals and challenges. What we’ve learned is that online, that ten minutes of individual connection with 1-2 students makes a big difference. We help kids connect their classes to their longer-term goals, and make sure they are not getting frustrated on one or two moves.

What if my child doesn’t want to wear their uniform?

We find wearing their uniform helps them focus on their class, but they are always welcome to participate whether they have their uniform or not.

What if my child doesn’t want to go to class?

We have three suggestions to help!

  1. Ask them to try it for 5-10 minutes. Usually with a great warm up, by the time 5 minutes has passed they are engaged and happy.
  2. Ask them to connect to Zoom to let their instructor know. Usually once they actually connect to the class, they end up staying and participating.
  3. Remind them of their goals. They will succeed in getting their next stripe or belt, or mastering that new great move…but only by coming to class.

And if that’s a challenge, send us an email and we’ll work with you to address any concerns.

How much space do I need available at home?

Students can learn in a 5×5 ft space. We’ll help them modify anything they need to modify.

How can parents/guardians help?

Really the biggest step is just to connect to class as close to on time as possible, with your video and audio connected. If you can’t do video please at least have audio on – we need to be able to check in with your student! But some other tips are:

  1. Have your student get ready in their uniform and do a bow with them to start off their class time.
  2. Have your child’s first name and last initial (or last name) as their display name on Zoom.
  3. Don’t eat too close to class time.
  4. Limit distractions where possible.
  5. Encourage your child to tell you what they’ve learned each time.
